How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose, often starting at 40 mg daily for adults for at least 7 days, then typically increasing to 80-100 mg daily. For children, the dose is based on body weight.

Method

Take the capsules whole by mouth with water, with or without food, once or twice a day (morning and late afternoon/early evening) at the same time each day. Do not open the capsules.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, stomach ache, feeling sick or vomiting.
  • Drowsiness, fatigue, or sleep problems (difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early).
  • Reduced appetite or weight loss.
  • Increased blood pressure or fast heart rate.
  • Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression, or feeling sad.
  • Dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, rash, itching, or increased sweating.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing, hives).
  • Signs of liver damage, such as dark urine, yellowing of skin or eyes, pain in the upper right abdomen, unexplained nausea, fatigue, and itching.
  • Thoughts of self-harm, aggression, psychosis (hearing or seeing things that are not real).
  • Seizures or uncontrollable body twitching or sounds (tics).
  • Poor circulation in fingers and toes (Raynaud's phenomenon), making them numb and white.
  • Prolonged and painful erection, or involuntary teeth grinding (bruxism).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to atomoxetine or have used certain antidepressants (MAO inhibitors) in the last two weeks, as this can cause serious side effects.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems, high or low blood pressure, glaucoma, severe blood vessel problems in your brain, or a tumor on your adrenal gland.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had thoughts of self-harm, aggression, mood changes, psychosis (like hearing or seeing things that aren't real), or seizures.
  • Do not open the capsules, as the contents can irritate the eyes. If any content gets into your eyes, rinse immediately with water and contact a doctor.
