Atomoxetine Accord is a medicine that helps with symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by increasing a natural brain chemical called noradrenaline, which improves focus and reduces being restless and impulsive.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your weight. For children and teenagers under 70 kg, you will start with 0.5 mg for each kg of your weight daily for at least 7 days. After that, your doctor may increase it to about 1.2 mg for each kg daily. If you are over 70 kg or an adult, you will start with 40 mg daily for at least 7 days, then your doctor may increase it to 80-100 mg daily.

Method

Take the capsules 1 to 2 times daily, usually in the morning and late afternoon or early evening. Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food. Do not open the capsules or empty their contents. Take your medicine at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose prescribed by your doctor is 100 mg.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to atomoxetine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have taken certain other medicines called MAO inhibitors in the last two weeks, as it can cause serious or life-threatening side effects.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, pain in the upper right part of your stomach, unexplained nausea, tiredness, itching, or flu-like feelings, as these could be signs of liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had thoughts of harming yourself or attempting suicide, as this medicine may increase such risks, especially in children and teenagers.
  • Inform your doctor about any heart problems (like heart defects or a very fast or abnormal heartbeat), high or low blood pressure, or a history of stroke, as this medicine can affect them.

  • Discuss with your doctor if you have a history of seizures (fits), epilepsy, glaucoma (high pressure in your eye), or a tumor in the adrenal gland, as this medicine might worsen these conditions.
  • Watch out for new or worsening aggressive feelings, hostility, mood swings, hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there), delusions (false beliefs), or signs of serotonin syndrome (like confusion, restlessness, very fast heartbeat, or high fever) and seek medical help immediately if they occur.
  • Do not open the capsules, as the contents can irritate your eyes. If the contents get into your eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Wash hands and any body parts that have touched the capsule contents as soon as possible.
  • This medicine may make you feel tired, sleepy, or dizzy. Do not drive or use machines until you know how Atomoxetine Accord affects you.
