How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your weight. Typically, treatment starts with a low dose for at least 7 days, which is then increased to a usual maintenance dose.

Method

Take capsules whole with water, with or without food, usually once or twice a day (morning and late afternoon/early evening). Do not open or crush capsules. Take at the same time daily.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach ache, indigestion, or gas
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Less hungry or not wanting to eat
  • Feeling sleepy, tired, or having low energy
  • Trouble sleeping or waking up early
  • Fast heartbeat or high blood pressure
  • Feeling irritable, anxious, or restless
  • Feeling sad or down (depression)
  • Muscle twitching (tics)
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Dry mouth
  • Strange taste in your mouth
  • Shaking (tremor)
  • Pins and needles or numbness in your hands or feet
  • Hot flashes or sweating a lot
  • Itchy, red, or swollen skin, or a rash
  • Trouble peeing, needing to pee often, or pain when peeing
  • Prostate problems (for men)
  • Pain in the groin area (for men)
  • Trouble getting or keeping an erection (for men)
  • Trouble reaching orgasm or less interest in sex (for men and women)
  • Period pain (for women)
  • Feeling weak or having chills
  • Weight loss
  • Large pupils (dark part of the eye)
  • Constipation
RARE
  • Fainting
  • Migraine headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Strange feelings on the skin, like burning or tingling
  • Seizures
  • Unusual heartbeat (can be seen on an ECG test)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hives (itchy red bumps on the skin)
  • Muscle spasms
  • Poor blood flow to fingers and toes, making them numb and pale (Raynaud's)
  • Long-lasting or painful erections
  • Liver damage
  • Chest pain
  • Urgent need to pee
  • Abnormal or no orgasm
  • Irregular periods
  • Trouble ejaculating
  • Groin pain (for boys)
  • Cold fingers and toes

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to atomoxetine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have used an MAO inhibitor (a type of antidepressant) in the last 2 weeks, as this can cause serious side effects. Wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAO inhibitor before starting this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (a condition with high pressure in the eye).
  • Do not take if you have severe heart problems, as this medicine can affect heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have severe problems with blood vessels in your brain, such as a stroke or aneurysm.

  • Do not take if you have a tumor on your adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma).
  • Tell your doctor if you have thoughts of harming yourself or attempting suicide.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience psychotic symptoms (like hearing voices or seeing things that aren't real) or mania (feeling overly excited or restless).
  • Tell your doctor if you feel aggressive, hostile, or become violent.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of seizures or epilepsy, as this medicine can increase the risk of seizures.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome, such as confusion, restlessness, muscle stiffness, or fast heartbeat.
  • Do not open capsules, as the contents can irritate your eyes. If capsule content gets into your eyes, rinse immediately with water and contact a healthcare professional. Wash your hands thoroughly.
