How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your daily dose based on your weight. For children and adolescents up to 70 kg, the starting dose is 0.5 mg/kg daily for 7 days, increasing to about 1.2 mg/kg daily. For those over 70 kg and adults, start with 40 mg daily for 7 days, then increase to 80-100 mg daily.

Method

Take this medicine 1-2 times a day, usually in the morning and late afternoon/early evening. Swallow capsules whole with water, with or without food. Do not open the capsules.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, stomach ache, nausea, or vomiting
  • Feeling tired, sleepy, or having trouble sleeping
  • Decreased appetite or weight loss
  • High blood pressure or fast heart rate
  • Feeling anxious, irritable, agitated, or sad
  • Dizziness or dry mouth
  • Constipation, gas, or indigestion
  • Skin rash, increased sweating, or itching
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Problems with urination (e.g., frequent urges or pain)
  • For adults: decreased sex drive, difficulty with erections, or delayed orgasm
  • For adults: prostate inflammation or menstrual cramps
RARE
  • Fainting
  • Migraine or blurred vision
  • Seizures or abnormal heart rhythm (prolonged QT interval)
  • Shortness of breath or hives (itchy, raised rash)
  • Raynaud's phenomenon (cold, numb, pale fingers and toes due to poor circulation)
  • Liver damage
  • For males: prolonged or painful erection, or ejaculation failure
  • For females: irregular menstruation or abnormal or absent orgasm

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor immediately if you have signs of liver problems like dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, stomach pain, unexplained nausea, tiredness, itching, or feeling like you have the flu.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms of serotonin syndrome, which can be life-threatening. These may include confusion, restlessness, poor coordination, stiff muscles, hallucinations, coma, fast heart rate, high body temperature, rapid blood pressure changes, sweating, flushing, tremors, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, aggression, hostility, mood swings, psychosis (like hearing voices or seeing things that aren't there), paranoia, mania, agitation, or tics.
  • Inform your doctor about any heart problems (including heart defects), fast heart rate, high or low blood pressure, sudden changes in blood pressure or heart rate, or a history of stroke. This medicine can affect your heart.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of seizures or epilepsy, as this medicine may increase the risk of seizures.

  • Do not open the capsules, as the contents can irritate your eyes. If capsule contents get into your eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help. Wash hands and other body parts that may have come into contact with the capsule contents as soon as possible.
