How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your weight. For children/teenagers up to 70 kg, initial dose is 0.5 mg/kg daily for 7 days, then typically 1.2 mg/kg daily. For children/teenagers over 70 kg and adults, initial dose is 40 mg daily for 7 days, then typically 80-100 mg daily.

Method

Take 1 or 2 times a day, usually in the morning and late afternoon/early evening. Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food. Do not open or empty the capsules. Take at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose your doctor will prescribe is 100 mg.

  • Constipation
  • Indigestion, stomach upset, or gas
  • Skin swelling, redness, itching or rash
  • Feeling very tired, weak, or lacking energy
  • Chest pain
  • Weight loss
  • Abnormal or changed taste that doesn't go away (Adults only)
  • Tremors or shaking
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Hot flashes or blushing (Adults only)
  • Increased sweating
  • Difficulty with urination (e.g., trouble starting, frequent, or painful urination)
  • Prostate inflammation (Adults only)
  • Groin pain (Males only)
  • Problems with erections (difficulty getting or keeping an erection) (Males only)
  • Delayed orgasm (Adults only)
  • Painful menstrual periods (Adults only)
  • Chills
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (prolonged QT interval)
  • Coldness, numbness, or pale fingers and toes due to poor circulation (Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • Prolonged, painful erections (Males only)
  • Liver damage (can be serious; symptoms include dark urine, yellow skin/eyes, unexplained nausea, fatigue, itching, flu-like symptoms)
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempts
  • Aggression or hostility
  • Mood swings or unusual changes in mood
  • Severe allergic reaction (with symptoms like face/throat swelling, trouble breathing, or hives)
  • Seizures
  • Psychotic symptoms (like hallucinations or delusions)
  • Uncontrolled teeth grinding (bruksismi)
  • Abnormal or absent orgasm (Adults only)
  • Irregular menstrual periods (Adults only)
  • Ejaculation failure (Adults only)
  • Decreased sex drive (Adults only)
  • Abnormal or altered taste (Adults only)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to atomoxetine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have used an MAO inhibitor (for depression or other mental health conditions) in the last two weeks. Serious side effects can occur.
  • Do not take if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (high pressure in your eye).
  • Do not take if you have serious heart problems, as this medicine can increase heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have serious blood vessel problems in your brain (like a stroke or aneurysm).

  • Do not take if you have an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma).
  • Tell your doctor if you have had thoughts of harming yourself or suicide attempts.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high or low blood pressure, or sudden changes in blood pressure/heart rate.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, blood vessel problems, or a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as you may need a lower dose.
  • Tell your doctor if you have psychotic symptoms like hearing voices or seeing things that are not there.
  • Tell your doctor if you have mania (feeling overly excited) or severe agitation.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience aggression, hostility, or unusual mood changes.
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy or a history of seizures, as this medicine can increase their risk.
  • Do not open the capsules. If the contents get into your eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Be aware of Serotonin Syndrome: a serious condition that can occur if taken with certain other medicines. Symptoms include confusion, restlessness, fast heartbeat, high fever, sweating, shaking, or muscle stiffness. Seek immediate medical help if you experience these.
