How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is one tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water and try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than prescribed by your doctor; typically one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood tests, such as low sodium (weakness, tiredness, muscle cramps) or high/low potassium (tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, tingling).
  • High sugar in blood, or sugar in urine.
  • Dizziness or feeling faint.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory infection.
RARE
  • Low blood pressure, causing weakness or dizziness.
  • Stomach problems like loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, or irritation.
  • Skin rashes, hives, or skin becoming sensitive to sunlight.
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Kidney problems, trouble sleeping, depression, or restlessness.
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet.
  • Temporary blurred vision, irregular heartbeat, or fever.
  • Breathing difficulties, including lung inflammation or fluid in the lungs.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), muscle cramps, or damage to blood vessels (red/purple spots on skin).
  • Reduced number of blood cells, leading to tiredness, infections, fever, or easy bruising.
  • Severe skin rash with peeling, blisters, or sores in the mouth.
  • Acute shortness of breath, severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, itching, back, joint, or muscle pain.
  • Liver function changes (tiredness, yellow skin/eyes, flu-like symptoms), cough, or nausea.
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma type).
  • Sudden nearsightedness, or decreased vision/eye pain due to high eye pressure.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Atacand Plus if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil, hydrochlorothiazide, other ingredients in this medicine, or to sulfonamide medicines.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant (especially after the first three months) or think you might be pregnant.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have a severe allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe itchy skin with raised bumps.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had kidney, liver, or heart disease, diabetes, low blood pressure, or gout.
  • Protect your skin from sun and UV light while taking this medicine, as it may increase the risk of certain skin cancers.

  • If you experience decreased vision or eye pain, contact your doctor right away.
  • If you develop severe shortness of breath or lung problems after taking Atacand Plus, seek immediate medical care.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
