How to Use

Dosage

One tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

One tablet per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low sodium levels in your blood, which can cause weakness, tiredness, and muscle cramps.
  • High or low potassium levels in your blood, which can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeats, or tingling.
  • High levels of cholesterol, sugar, or uric acid in your blood.
  • Sugar in your urine.
  • Dizziness or feeling faint.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory infection.
RARE
  • Low blood pressure, causing weakness or dizziness.
  • Loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, or stomach irritation.
  • Skin rash, hives (itchy bumps), or skin sensitivity to sunlight.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Changes in kidney function, especially if you have existing kidney or heart problems.
  • Sleep problems, depression, or restlessness.
  • Tingling or numbness in your hands or feet.
  • Temporary blurred vision.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Breathing problems, including lung inflammation and fluid in the lungs.
  • Fever.
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), causing moderate to severe stomach pain.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Blood vessel damage, appearing as red or purple spots on the skin.
  • Low numbers of red or white blood cells or platelets, which can lead to tiredness, infections, fever, or easy bruising.
  • Severe, rapidly developing skin rash with peeling or blistering, and possibly mouth sores.
  • Sudden severe breathing problems (signs include severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion).
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema), with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Itching.
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain.
  • Liver function changes, including hepatitis (liver inflammation), which may cause tiredness, yellow skin/eyes, or flu-like symptoms.
  • Cough.
  • Nausea.
  • Non-melanoma skin and lip cancer.
  • Sudden nearsightedness.
  • Reduced vision or eye pain due to high pressure in the eye (possible signs of fluid buildup in the eye's blood vessels or acute narrow-angle glaucoma).
  • Systemic and cutaneous lupus erythematosus (an allergic condition causing fever, joint pain, and skin rash that can include redness, blisters, peeling, and hard lumps).

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience severe allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe itchy skin with raised lumps.
  • Do not use Atacand Plus if you are pregnant for more than 3 months, as it can harm your baby. Avoid it during early pregnancy too.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver problems, or if bile flow from the gallbladder is blocked.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to sulfonamide medicines.
  • Do not use if you have persistently low blood potassium or high blood calcium levels.

  • This medicine can increase your risk of certain skin and lip cancers. Protect your skin from sun and UV light while using Atacand Plus.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience vision problems or eye pain, as these can be signs of serious eye conditions that may lead to permanent vision loss if untreated.
  • If you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties after taking Atacand Plus, seek immediate medical attention.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking it.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
