How to Use

Dosage

Typically, for high blood pressure, start with 8 mg once daily, which may be increased by your doctor up to 32 mg daily.

Method

Take your tablet once daily with or without food, swallowing it whole with water. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 32 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or spinning sensation
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection
  • Low blood pressure (may cause weakness and dizziness)
  • Increased potassium in blood (may cause fatigue, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling, especially with kidney or heart problems)
  • Changes in kidney function (rarely kidney failure), especially if you have existing kidney or heart problems
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), or swelling in the intestine causing abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells (may cause tiredness, infections, or fever)
  • Rash, hives, or itching
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain
  • Liver problems, including hepatitis (may cause fatigue, yellow skin/eyes, or flu-like symptoms)
  • Nausea
  • Decreased sodium in blood (may cause weakness, low energy, or muscle cramps)
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Atacand if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredients of this medicine.
  • Do not take Atacand if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can severely harm your baby.
  • Do not take Atacand if you have severe liver disease or problems with bile flow from your gallbladder.
  • Do not give Atacand to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not take Atacand if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine that contains aliskiren.

  • This medicine can make you feel tired or dizzy; if so, do not drive or use tools/machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
