How to Use

Dosage

Typically 400 micrograms once daily in the evening or 200 micrograms twice daily, depending on the severity of your asthma. Your doctor will determine the correct dose for you.

Method

The inhaler contains powder that you breathe into your lungs. Use the device in an upright position. Remove the cap, place the mouthpiece in your mouth, inhale deeply, hold your breath for 10 seconds, then close the cap. Rinse your mouth with water after each dose.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 400 micrograms twice daily (total 800 micrograms).

  • Thrush (white patches) in the mouth or throat

  • Indigestion
  • Weight gain
  • Fast or pounding heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma) or cataracts
  • Blurred vision
  • Slowed or altered growth patterns in adolescents
  • Reduced bone density
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Low mood or anxiety
  • Restlessness, nervousness, excitement, or irritability
  • Weakness, fatigue, dizziness, or fainting when standing (due to adrenal gland effects)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to mometasone furoate or other corticosteroids, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had tuberculosis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a herpes simplex (virus) infection in your eye or any other infection.
  • Rinse your mouth with water after each dose to help prevent thrush (white patches in your mouth or throat). If you get thrush, tell your doctor.
  • Seek immediate medical help if your breathing becomes wheezy or difficult right after using Asmanex Twisthaler; this could be an allergic reaction. Do not use the medicine again until you've seen a doctor.

  • Always carry your fast-acting 'rescue' inhaler for sudden asthma attacks. This medicine is for prevention, not for immediate relief.
  • Avoid contact with people who have chickenpox or measles, especially if it's for a child. Tell your doctor if you come into contact with such individuals.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or any other eye problems.
  • Do not stop using Asmanex Twisthaler suddenly, even if your asthma symptoms improve. Talk to your doctor first.
