How to Use

Dosage

For active disease, the dose can be up to 4800 mg (3 tablets) daily, taken once or divided into 2-3 doses. For maintenance therapy, 1600 mg daily.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water; do not chew, crush, or break them. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 4800 mg (3 tablets) for active disease.

Possible Side Effects

  • Increase in white blood cells (eosinophils)
  • Tingling, prickling, or numbness
  • Itchy skin or hives
  • Chest pain

  • Heart inflammation (with chest pain, palpitations)
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, gas, vomiting
  • Increased skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Severe reduction in blood cells (weakness, bruising, increased infection or bleeding risk)
  • Drug-induced fever
  • Immune system disorder (lupus-like syndrome, inflammation of heart/lung membranes, rash, joint pain)
  • Ulcerative colitis affecting the entire large intestine
  • Nerve problems (numbness, tingling)
  • Lung disease (breathing difficulties, cough, wheezing, pneumonia)
  • Pancreatitis (upper abdominal and back pain, nausea)
  • Liver problems (abnormal test results, hepatitis, flu-like symptoms, jaundice)
  • Hair loss
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Kidney problems (inflammation, scarring, kidney failure)
  • Reduced sperm production
  • Kidney stones and kidney pain
  • Weight loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to mesalazine, aspirin, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction in your heart that was thought to be caused by mesalazine.
  • Stop using this medicine and seek medical help right away if you develop a severe rash, blisters, or sores on your skin or in your mouth.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe or persistent headaches, vision problems, or ringing in your ears.

  • Use with caution if you have a stomach ulcer.
  • Drink enough fluids because this medicine can cause kidney stones.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines that weaken your immune system (like azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine, or thioguanine), as this can cause serious infections.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
