How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual dose is 15 mg once a day; for adolescents (13-17 years), the usual dose is 10 mg once a day.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with water, swallowed whole. For 10mg, 15mg, and 30mg tablets, they can be divided. Take it at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 30 mg.

  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up (dizziness, fainting)
  • Hiccups
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Low platelet count
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of mouth, tongue, face or throat, itching, rash)
  • New onset or worsening of diabetes, ketoacidosis (ketones in blood and urine) or loss of consciousness
  • Low blood sodium levels
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and suicide
  • Aggressiveness, agitation, nervousness
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a combination of fever, muscle stiffness, fast breathing, sweating, confusion, changes in blood pressure and heart rate)
  • Seizures
  • Serotonin syndrome (extreme happiness, drowsiness, clumsiness, restlessness, feeling intoxicated, fever, sweating, stiff muscles)
  • Speech disorders
  • Eyes fixed in one position
  • Sudden death, life-threatening irregular heartbeat, heart attack, slowed heartbeat
  • Blood clots in veins, especially in legs (symptoms include swelling, pain, and redness in the leg; if moving to lungs: chest pain, difficulty breathing - seek urgent medical help)
  • High blood pressure
  • Fainting
  • Food aspiration (risk of pneumonia)
  • Muscle spasms in the vocal cord area
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Diarrhea, stomach discomfort
  • Liver problems (failure, inflammation, yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, abnormal liver tests)
  • Rash, light sensitivity of skin, hair loss, excessive sweating
  • Severe allergic reactions (DRESS syndrome) which may include flu-like symptoms, rash, fever, swollen glands, and elevated liver enzymes/white blood cells.
  • Abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) leading to kidney problems
  • Involuntary urination (incontinence), difficulty urinating
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns if exposed during pregnancy
  • Prolonged and/or painful erection
  • Body temperature regulation disorders or elevated body temperature (e.g., fever)
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
  • Abnormal blood test results (e.g., increased or fluctuating blood sugar levels, increased glycated hemoglobin levels)
  • Inability to resist harmful impulses (e.g., excessive gambling, altered or increased sexual interest, uncontrolled buying, binge eating, wandering)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any of its other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience stiff muscles with high fever, sweating, changes in awareness, or a very fast or uneven heartbeat.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood sugar, a family history of diabetes, seizures, or uncontrolled muscle movements (especially in your face).
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart or blood vessel problems, a history of stroke, abnormal blood pressure, or a family history of blood clots.

  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice you developing unusual urges that you can't control, like excessive gambling, eating, spending, or sexual thoughts.
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness and dizziness, which might lead to falls. Be careful, especially if you are elderly or frail.
  • Not for use in children under 13 years old.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and vision problems, so be careful when driving or operating machines.
