How to Use

Dosage

The usual adult dose is 15 mg once daily; for adolescents (13 years and older), the recommended daily dose is 10 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water, at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor.

Important

Your doctor may adjust your dose, but the maximum daily dose is 30 mg once daily.

  • Light sensitivity of eyes

  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up (dizziness, faintness, fainting)

  • Low white blood cell count

  • Allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of mouth, tongue, face, throat, itching, rash)
  • New or worsening diabetes, ketoacidosis (ketones in blood/urine) or coma
  • Low sodium in blood

  • Speech problems
  • Eyes fixed in one position

  • Life-threatening irregular heartbeats

  • Slow heart rate
  • Blood clots in veins, especially in legs (swelling, pain, redness, chest pain, breathing difficulties if they travel to lungs)

  • Food entering windpipe and risk of pneumonia
  • Muscle spasms in vocal cords
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Difficulty swallowing

  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)

  • Involuntary urine leakage (incontinence)
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns (if mother used during pregnancy)
  • Prolonged and/or painful erection
  • Problems with body temperature regulation or high body temperature

  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
  • Changes in blood sugar levels, increased glycated hemoglobin in blood tests
  • Inability to resist harmful urges (e.g., excessive gambling, increased sex drive, uncontrolled shopping, binge eating, wandering)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any of its other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you think about harming yourself or have suicidal thoughts.
  • Inform your doctor if you have high blood sugar, diabetes, seizures, heart or blood vessel problems, or a family history of these conditions.
  • Tell your doctor if you have blood clots or a family history of blood clots.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice unusual urges or behaviors that you can't control, such as excessive gambling, eating, or shopping, or increased sexual urges.

  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and vision problems, so be careful when driving or operating machines.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have muscle stiffness or cramps with a high fever, sweating, changes in awareness, or a very fast heart rate.
  • Tell your doctor if you gain weight, have unusual movements, feel very sleepy, have trouble swallowing, or have allergic reactions.
  • This medicine is not for use in children under 13 years old.
