How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 15 mg once a day, but your doctor may change this.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 30 mg in one day.

  • Restless legs
  • Double vision
  • Light sensitivity of the eyes

  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up, causing dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
  • Hiccups
  • Decreased white blood cell count
  • Decreased platelet count
  • Allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of mouth, tongue, face or throat, itching, rash)
  • Onset or worsening of diabetes, ketoacidosis (high levels of ketones in blood and urine), or coma
  • High blood sugar
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Weight loss
  • Weight gain
  • Suicidal thoughts, attempts, and suicide
  • Aggressiveness
  • Agitation

  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a serious reaction with fever, muscle stiffness, faster breathing, sweating, confusion, and sudden changes in blood pressure and heart rate)
  • Seizures
  • Serotonin syndrome (a reaction with feelings of happiness, drowsiness, clumsiness, restlessness, feeling drunk, fever, sweating or stiff muscles)
  • Speech disorders
  • Eyes fixed in one position
  • Sudden unexplained death
  • Life-threatening irregular heart rhythm
  • Heart attack
  • Slow heart rate
  • Blood clots in veins, especially in the legs (symptoms include swelling, pain, and redness of the leg)
  • High blood pressure
  • Fainting
  • Accidental inhalation of food with risk of pneumonia
  • Muscle spasms around the larynx
  • Pancreatitis
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach upset
  • Stomach pains
  • Liver failure
  • Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
  • Yellowing of skin and whites of eyes

  • Severe allergic reactions like DRESS syndrome (flu-like symptoms, facial rash, followed by widespread rash, high fever, swollen lymph nodes, high liver enzymes, and increased white blood cells)
  • Abnormal muscle breakdown that can cause kidney problems

  • Stiffness
  • Involuntary urination (incontinence)
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns after exposure during pregnancy
  • Prolonged and/or painful erection
  • Body temperature regulation problems or high body temperature (e.g., fever)
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling of hands, ankles or feet
  • Blood tests: increased and fluctuating blood sugar levels, increased glycated hemoglobin levels
  • Inability to resist urges, compulsive needs or temptations that can be harmful
  • Strong urge to gamble excessively despite severe personal or family consequences
  • Altered or increased sexual interest and behavior
  • Uncontrolled and excessive shopping or spending
  • Binge eating (eating large amounts of food in a short time) or compulsive eating
  • Wandering

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor right away if you have thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, seizures, involuntary muscle movements, heart problems, stroke, blood clots, or a history of gambling problems.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience high fever, muscle stiffness, sweating, confusion, or a fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience strong urges you can't control, like gambling, overeating, excessive spending, or unusual sexual urges.

  • This medicine can cause dizziness, low blood pressure when standing up, and problems with balance, which might lead to falls. Be careful, especially if you are elderly or frail.
  • This medicine is not for children under 15 years old.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and vision problems. Be careful when driving or using machines.
