How to Use

Dosage

Usually 15 mg once a day, but your doctor may change the dose.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 30 mg per day.

  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up due to a drop in blood pressure
  • Hiccups
  • Low white blood cells
  • Low platelets
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the mouth, tongue, face, or throat, itching, rash)
  • New or worsening diabetes, high ketones in blood or urine, or coma
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia) or weight loss
  • Suicidal thoughts, attempts, and suicide
  • Aggression
  • Agitation
  • Nervousness
  • A serious reaction called NMS, with symptoms like fever, very stiff muscles, fast breathing, sweating, confusion, and sudden changes in blood pressure or heart rate
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Serotonin Syndrome (a reaction with feelings of extreme happiness, drowsiness, clumsiness, restlessness, feeling drunk, fever, sweating, or stiff muscles)
  • Speech disorders
  • Eyes fixed in one position
  • Sudden unexplained death
  • Life-threatening irregular heartbeat
  • Heart attack
  • Slow heart rate
  • Blood clots in veins, especially in the legs (symptoms include swelling, pain, redness in the leg, chest pain, and difficulty breathing - seek medical help immediately)
  • High blood pressure
  • Accidental inhalation of food, risking pneumonia
  • Muscle spasms in the voice box area
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach upset or abdominal pain
  • Liver failure
  • Liver inflammation
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Rash
  • Skin sensitivity to light
  • Hair loss
  • Excessive sweating
  • DRESS syndrome (severe allergic reaction with flu-like symptoms, facial rash, widespread rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, high liver enzymes, and increased white blood cells)
  • Breakdown of muscle cells (rhabdomyolysis) which can lead to kidney problems
  • Muscle pain
  • Stiffness
  • Involuntary urination (incontinence)
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns whose mothers used this medicine during pregnancy (e.g., shaking, stiff muscles, weakness, drowsiness, restlessness, breathing or feeding problems)
  • Prolonged and/or painful erection
  • Problems controlling body temperature (e.g., fever)
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
  • Blood tests showing fluctuating blood sugar or increased HbA1c
  • Strong urges you can't control, such as compulsive gambling, increased sexual drive, compulsive shopping, binge eating, or wandering.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any other ingredient in it.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you think about harming yourself or feel like doing so.
  • Tell your doctor before starting treatment if you have high blood sugar or a family history of diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures (fits).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, a history of stroke, or abnormal blood pressure.

  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots or if they run in your family.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of excessive gambling or other compulsive behaviors.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice weight gain, unusual movements, daily drowsiness, difficulty swallowing, or allergic reactions.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience stiff muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, or a very fast or uneven heartbeat.
  • If you are an elderly patient with dementia, your doctor should be informed of any history of stroke or mini-stroke.
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and problems with balance, which might lead to falls. Be careful, especially if you are elderly or frail.
  • Do not use this medicine in children or adolescents under 15 years of age.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Do not change your dose or stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and vision problems. Be careful when driving or operating machines.
