Aripiprazol Krka is a medicine used to treat psychotic disorders and manic episodes in adults and adolescents, and it also helps prevent symptoms from returning.

How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 15 mg once daily. For adolescents (13 years and older), the usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with water, swallowing it whole. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 30 mg.

  • Restlessness or inability to sit still (akathisia)
  • Uncontrolled twitching, jerky or writhing movements
  • Tremors
  • Headache
  • Fatigue or sleepiness
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Blurred vision
  • Constipation or difficulty having bowel movements
  • Indigestion or stomach upset
  • Nausea
  • Increased saliva production
  • Vomiting
RARE
  • Low or high levels of prolactin hormone in the blood
  • High blood sugar
  • Depression
  • Changed or increased sexual desire
  • Uncontrolled movements of the mouth, tongue, arms and legs (tardive dyskinesia)
  • Muscle spasms causing twisting movements (dystonia)
  • Restless legs
  • Double vision
  • Eyes sensitive to light
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Hiccups
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Low platelet count
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of mouth, tongue, face, or throat, itching, hives)
  • New or worsening diabetes, ketoacidosis (ketones in blood and urine) or coma
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Suicidal thoughts, attempts, and suicide
  • Aggression or agitation
  • Nervousness
  • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS): fever, stiff muscles, fast breathing, sweating, decreased consciousness, sudden changes in blood pressure and heart rate
  • Seizures
  • Serotonin Syndrome: feeling very happy, drowsy, clumsy, restless, feeling drunk, fever, sweating, stiff muscles
  • Speech disorder
  • Eyes fixed in one position
  • Unexplained sudden death
  • Life-threatening irregular heartbeat or heart attack
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Blood clots in veins, especially in legs (swelling, pain, redness), which can travel to lungs causing chest pain and difficulty breathing (seek immediate medical help if this occurs)
  • High blood pressure
  • Fainting
  • Food going into windpipe, leading to risk of pneumonia
  • Muscle spasms in the vocal cords
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Diarrhea
  • Liver failure or hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Rash or photosensitivity (skin sensitivity to light)
  • Hair loss or excessive sweating
  • Severe allergic reaction called DRESS syndrome (flu-like symptoms, rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, abnormal blood tests)
  • Abnormal muscle breakdown leading to kidney problems
  • Muscle pain or stiffness
  • Involuntary urination (incontinence) or difficulty urinating
  • Newborn withdrawal syndrome if exposed to the medicine during pregnancy
  • Prolonged and/or painful erection
  • Body temperature regulation problems or high body temperature
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
  • Inability to resist harmful impulses such as compulsive gambling, excessive sexual interest, uncontrolled shopping/spending, binge eating, or wandering

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Aripiprazol Krka if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have diabetes (or family history), seizures, involuntary muscle movements, heart or blood vessel disease (or family history), stroke, abnormal blood pressure, blood clots (or family history), or a history of compulsive gambling.
  • Tell your doctor if you gain weight, develop unusual movements, feel very sleepy, have trouble swallowing, or experience allergic reactions.
  • If you are an elderly patient with dementia, your doctor or caregiver should be told if you have ever had a stroke or mini-stroke.

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience muscle stiffness, high fever, sweating, changes in consciousness, or a very fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Inform your doctor if you or your family notice you developing urges or cravings to behave in ways unusual for you, such as compulsive gambling, excessive eating or spending, or unusual sexual urges, as these may be impulse control disorders.
  • Aripiprazol Krka can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and changes in balance, which may lead to falls. Be careful, especially if you are elderly or frail.
  • This medicine should not be used in children under 13 years of age as its safety and effectiveness in this age group are unknown.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
