How to Use

Dosage

For adults and teenagers over 12, the usual daily dose is 1 to 8 Arilin 250 mg tablets.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough liquid, either during or after a meal. Do not chew them.

Important

Do not take more than 8 tablets (2 grams of metronidazole) in a single day. Treatment usually lasts no longer than 10 days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in taste (e.g., metallic taste).
  • Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pressure, or diarrhea.
  • Dark urine, coated tongue, or inflammation of the tongue or mouth.
RARE
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, or trouble sleeping.
  • Problems with coordination or convulsions (seizures).
  • Skin reactions like rash, itching, hives, or redness with a feeling of warmth.
  • Temporary vision problems (e.g., double vision, blurred vision, changes in color vision, nearsightedness).
  • Mental changes like confusion, irritation, depression, or seeing/hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Arilin if you are allergic to metronidazole, other similar medicines (5-nitroimidazole derivatives), wheat starch, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor right away if you get severe or long-lasting diarrhea. This could be a serious bowel problem that needs urgent medical care.
  • If you have Cockayne syndrome, your doctor will regularly check your liver function during and after Arilin treatment, as this medicine can cause severe liver damage, even death.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Arilin. It can cause side effects like facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden, severe allergic reactions, such as trouble breathing, swelling of your face or throat, dizziness, or vomiting.
