How to Use

Dosage

Take 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours.

Method

Take the tablets whole with a glass of water, with or immediately after food. Do not chew, break, crush, or suck them.

Important

Do not take more than 6 tablets in a 24-hour period.

  • Sensitivity to light (photosensitivity)
  • Vision or hearing problems
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation), yellowing of skin/eyes, or reduced liver function
  • Reduced kidney function, kidney inflammation, or kidney failure
  • Rhinitis (sneezing, stuffy, itchy, or runny nose)
  • Stomach or intestinal ulcer, or a hole in the intestinal wall
  • Inflammation of the stomach lining
  • Small bruises on the skin, in the mouth, nose, or ears
  • Breathing difficulties, wheezing, cough, or worsening of asthma
  • Changes in blood cell counts (symptoms include high fever, sore throat, mouth sores, flu-like symptoms, extreme tiredness, or bleeding from nose/skin)
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Vertigo
  • Depression or confusion
  • Fluid retention (swelling)
  • Non-bacterial meningitis (brain membrane inflammation)
  • Loss of vision
  • Liver damage or liver failure
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Prolonged bleeding time
  • Worsening of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease
  • Burning sensation in mouth or throat (may be temporary after taking medicine)
  • Urination difficulties
  • Heart failure, heart attack, or high blood pressure
  • Chest pain (may be a sign of a serious allergic reaction called Kounis syndrome)
  • Skin reactions that often reappear in the same body area after repeated use of the medicine

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Ardinex if you are allergic to ibuprofen, codeine, or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had an allergic reaction (like rash, swollen face/lips, or breathing issues) to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other similar painkillers.
  • Do not use if you have (or have had) stomach ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestines.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney, liver, or heart problems, or if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use during the last three months of pregnancy.

  • Stop taking the medicine immediately and see a doctor if you notice signs of stomach or intestinal bleeding (blood in stool, black tar-like stool, or coffee-ground-like vomit).
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, leading to difficulty swallowing or breathing, rapid heartbeat, or a sudden drop in blood pressure.
  • Stop taking and see a doctor if you get a severe skin rash, peeling, blisters, or shedding skin (including in mouth, nose, or ears), as these can be signs of serious skin reactions.
  • Contact your doctor if you have severe upper abdominal pain that radiates to the back, nausea, vomiting, or fever, as these can be signs of pancreas or bile duct inflammation.
  • This medicine can make you confused or sleepy, so do not drive or operate machinery if you feel this way.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
