How to Use

Dosage

Day 1: One 125 mg capsule. Days 2 and 3: One 80 mg capsule once daily.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with liquid, 1 hour before chemotherapy on Day 1, and in the morning on Days 2 and 3. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Day 1: 125 mg. Days 2 and 3: 80 mg. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Possible Side Effects

  • Constipation, indigestion

  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood
RARE
  • Dizziness, drowsiness
  • Acne, skin rash
  • Restlessness
  • Burping, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach pain, dry mouth, gas
  • Increased pain or burning sensation during urination
  • Feeling of weakness, general unwellness
  • Hot flashes and redness of face and skin
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Fever with increased risk of infection, decreased red blood cells
  • Difficulty thinking, lack of energy, taste disturbances
  • Skin sensitivity to sunlight, excessive sweating, oily skin, skin lesions, itchy rash, Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (severe skin reactions)
  • Euphoria (extreme feeling of well-being), disorientation (not knowing time and place)
  • Bacterial infections, fungal infections
  • Severe constipation, stomach ulcer, inflammation of the small and large intestine, mouth sores, bloating
  • Frequent urge to urinate, increased urine output, sugar or blood in urine
  • Chest discomfort, swelling, changes in walking
  • Cough, phlegm in throat, throat irritation, sneezing, sore throat
  • Watery and itchy eyes
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Muscle spasms, muscle weakness
  • Constant thirst
  • Slowed heartbeat, cardiovascular disease
  • Decreased white blood cells, low blood sodium levels, weight loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you or your child are allergic to aprepitant or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take with pimozide (for mental illness), terfenadine or astemizole (for allergies), or cisapride (for stomach problems).
  • Tell your doctor if you or your child have liver problems, as the liver plays a role in breaking down this medicine.
  • Do not give 80 mg and 125 mg capsules to children under 12 years of age, as studies have not been conducted in this age group.
  • Hormonal birth control (pills, patches, implants) may not work as well. Use another form of non-hormonal birth control during treatment and for 2 months after.

  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you or your child develop signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as hives, rash, itching, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drive, cycle, or operate machinery if you or your child experience these effects.
  • Aprepitant Stada contains sucrose. If you or your child have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
