How to Use

Dosage

One 2.5 mg or 5 mg tablet twice a day, exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablet with water. You can take it with or without food. Try to take the medicine at the same time each day. If you have difficulty swallowing, the tablet can be crushed and mixed with water, apple juice, or apple sauce.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribes. The maximum allowed dose is usually 10 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding, such as bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums.
  • Anemia, which can make you feel tired or pale.
  • Nausea (feeling sick).
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or a fast heartbeat.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing. Seek medical help right away.
  • Bleeding inside the body, such as in the brain, lungs, or muscles.
  • Hair loss.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to apixaban or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe bleeding or a condition that increases the risk of severe bleeding, such as a recent brain bleed or stomach ulcer.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor, as the risk of blood clots may increase if you stop treatment too early.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Apixaban Orion if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have severe kidney or liver problems, or have an increased risk of bleeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Consider renal impairment, age and body weight when determining the dosage. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
