How to Use

Dosage

For lung tuberculosis, take 1-3 capsules (150-450 mg) once daily for six months. For other mycobacterial infections, take 3-4 capsules (450-600 mg) once daily. To prevent infections in patients with weak immune systems, take 2 capsules (300 mg) once daily.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 600 mg (4 capsules).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low number of white blood cells
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Skin rash
  • Nausea, discolored tongue or teeth
  • Muscle pain
  • Fever
RARE
  • Changes in blood counts (e.g., low red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets)
  • Allergic reaction, narrowing of airways, high number of eosinophils
  • Inflammation inside the eye (uveitis), cloudy cornea
  • Vomiting
  • Yellow skin (jaundice), high liver enzyme levels
  • Skin discoloration, redness, skin inflammation
  • Joint pain
  • Diarrhea caused by antibiotics (Clostridium difficile diarrhea)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver or kidney problems, as this may affect your dose.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby.
  • This medicine can turn your urine, tears, and other body fluids, and even your skin, an orange-red color. It can also permanently stain soft contact lenses.
  • Contact your doctor if you get long-lasting, bloody, or severe diarrhea during or after treatment.
  • Contact your doctor if you get a rash during or after treatment.
