Anidulafungin Reig Jofre is a medicine used to treat serious fungal infections in the blood or internal organs caused by Candida yeast in adults and children aged 1 month to under 18 years.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 200 mg on the first day, then 100 mg daily. Children (1 month to under 18 years) start with 3.0 mg/kg (max 200 mg) on the first day, then 1.5 mg/kg (max 100 mg) daily. The dose depends on the child's weight.

Method

The medicine is given once a day as a slow drip into a vein (infusion).

Important

The maximum daily maintenance dose is 100 mg. The initial loading dose on the first day is up to 200 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low potassium in the blood
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Changes in liver function tests (seen in blood tests)
  • Rash or itching
  • Changes in kidney function tests (seen in blood tests)
  • Abnormal bile flow from the gallbladder to the intestine (cholestasis)
  • High blood sugar
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Sudden tightening of airway muscles (wheezing or coughing)
  • Shortness of breath
RARE
  • Blood clotting disorder
  • Skin redness or warmth
  • Hot flashes
  • Stomach pain
  • Hives
  • Pain at the injection site
  • Life-threatening allergic reaction

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you or your child are allergic to anidulafungin, other similar medicines (echinocandins), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • This medicine should not be given to babies younger than 1 month old.
  • This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy. If you can get pregnant, use effective birth control. Talk to your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.
  • If you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor before starting this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience signs of a serious allergic reaction or infusion reaction, such as a rash, hives, itching, redness of the face or neck, hot flashes, trouble breathing, or wheezing.
