How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1 mg per day, taken as one 0.5 mg capsule twice daily for at least one week. Your doctor will adjust the dose.

Method

Swallow capsules whole with water. Do not crush or dissolve them. You can take them with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

Do not exceed the dose your doctor prescribes. Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas, causing severe stomach and back pain)
  • Vomiting blood or bloody/black stools
  • Severe reduction in blood cells (pancytopenia), causing weakness, bruising, bleeding, or infections
  • High blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension), causing shortness of breath, swollen legs/ankles, and bluish skin/lips
  • Kidney failure (little or no urine production)
  • Heart attack
  • Feeling weak or generally unwell
  • High blood pressure
  • Fainting
  • Chills or fever
  • Indigestion
  • Loss of appetite

  • Heart muscle disease (symptoms: fatigue, chest pain, palpitations)
  • Enlarged heart
  • Fluid around the heart
  • Painful spasms of heart blood vessels (Prinzmetal's angina) at rest, often at night or early morning
  • Loss of coordination
  • Speech difficulties
  • Dry skin
  • Migraine
  • Vision disturbances or double vision
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Dizziness when standing up (especially from sitting or lying down)
  • Increased need to urinate at night
  • Pain
  • Flu-like symptoms

  • Blood vessel dilation
  • Colitis (inflammation of the large intestine with blood/mucus in stool, stomach pain, fever)
  • Gastritis (inflammation of the stomach with pain, nausea, vomiting)
  • Unusual lung density (seen in X-rays)
  • Elevated creatinine levels in blood (may indicate kidney problems)
  • Potentially life-threatening irregular heartbeats (Torsade de pointes)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, itching, yellowing of skin/eyes, and discolored stool/urine
  • Lung inflammation leading to lung scarring (allergic alveolitis, interstitial lung disease, pneumonitis), with fever, cough, breathing difficulties, wheezing
  • Kidney inflammation (tubulointerstitial nephritis)
  • Stroke (refer to warnings section for symptoms)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to anagrelide or any other ingredients. Signs of allergy can be rash, itching, swelling of the face/lips, or trouble breathing.
  • Tell your doctor if you have moderate or severe liver or kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems, a family history of heart rhythm issues (QT prolongation), or low levels of potassium, magnesium, or calcium in your blood.
  • Taking this medicine with aspirin or other blood-thinning medications can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can increase your risk of stroke.
