How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1 mg. You will take this as one 0.5 mg capsule twice a day for at least one week. Your doctor may then change your dose to find what works best for you.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with a glass of water. Do not crush them or dissolve their contents in liquid. You can take the capsules with or after food, or on an empty stomach. It's best to take them at the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose. Do not take more than prescribed.

  • Painful spasms in heart blood vessels (Prinzmetal's angina)
  • Loss of coordination
  • Speech difficulties
  • Dry skin
  • Migraine
  • Vision problems or double vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Dizziness when standing up (orthostatic dizziness)
  • Increased need to urinate at night
  • Pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Drowsiness
  • Widened blood vessels
  • Large bowel inflammation (diarrhea with blood and mucus, stomach pain, fever)
  • Stomach inflammation (pain, nausea, vomiting)
  • Abnormal density in lungs
  • Increased creatinine levels (may indicate kidney problems)
  • Potentially life-threatening irregular heartbeats (Torsade de Pointes)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) with nausea, vomiting, itching, yellow skin/eyes, discolored stool/urine
  • Lung inflammation causing scarring (with fever, cough, breathing difficulties, wheezing)
  • Kidney inflammation
  • Stroke

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to anagrelid or any other ingredient in this medicine, as this can cause rash, itching, swelling of the face or lips, or trouble breathing.
  • Do not take if you have moderate to severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you have moderate to severe kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or think you might have heart problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family have a history of a heart rhythm problem called 'QT prolongation' (seen on an ECG, an electrical recording of your heart), or if you take other medicines that can affect your heart rhythm, or if you have low levels of potassium, magnesium, or calcium in your blood.

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor first, as stopping suddenly can increase your risk of stroke.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden numbness or weakness, confusion, speech difficulties, vision problems, trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or a sudden severe headache, as these can be signs of a stroke.
