Amoxin Comp

Amoxin comp 80 mg / 11.4 mg/ml oral suspension is an antibiotic that kills bacteria causing infections and contains two active substances: amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose for children under 40 kg is 25 mg / 3.6 mg per kg of body weight per day up to 45 mg / 6.4 mg per kg per day, divided into two doses. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Shake the bottle well before each use. Give the medicine to your child at the start of a meal or just before. Distribute doses evenly throughout the day, with at least four hours between doses.

Important

Do not give this medicine for more than two weeks continuously. Do not give two doses within the same hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth, skin folds, or vagina)
  • Feeling sick (nausea), especially with high doses. If this happens, give Amoxin comp before a meal.
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Rash, itching
  • Itchy, raised rash (hives)
  • Indigestion
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Increase in liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Rash with blisters that look like small targets (dark spot surrounded by a paler area with a dark ring). If you see these symptoms, contact a doctor immediately.
  • Low levels of blood clotting factors (seen in blood tests)
  • Low white blood cell count (seen in blood tests)
  • Severe skin reactions like a widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin (especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals), or a red, scaly rash with bumps under the skin and blisters. Contact a doctor immediately if these occur.
  • Inflammation of the large bowel (colitis) causing watery diarrhea, usually with blood and mucus, stomach pain, and/or fever.
  • Acute inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) causing severe and constant pain in the stomach area.
  • Drug-induced inflammation of the intestines (enterocolitis syndrome), mainly in children, with repeated vomiting (1-4 hours after dose), stomach pain, severe tiredness, diarrhea, and low blood pressure.
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis).
  • Rash with blisters that form a circle with a crust in the middle or look like a string of pearls (linear IgA disease).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) or jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes caused by too much bilirubin in the blood).
  • Inflammation in the kidney tubules.
  • Blood takes longer to clot.
  • Hyperactivity.
  • Convulsions (seizures), especially in people who take high doses or have kidney problems.
  • Black, hairy tongue.
  • Tooth discoloration (in children), usually removable by brushing.
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells.
  • Low red blood cell count (hemolytic anemia).
  • Crystals in the urine leading to acute kidney damage.

Important Warnings

  • Do not give if your child is allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not give if your child has had a severe allergic reaction to another antibiotic, like a rash or swelling of the face or throat.
  • Do not give if your child has had liver problems or yellowing of the skin (jaundice) with previous antibiotic use.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine if your child has glandular fever, liver or kidney problems, or if they are not urinating regularly.
  • This medicine contains benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions or serious side effects, especially in very young children (under 4 weeks old). Do not give to newborns without a doctor's advice. Do not use for more than a week in children under 3 years old unless advised by a doctor.

  • This medicine contains sulfur dioxide, which can rarely cause severe allergic reactions and breathing difficulties.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
