How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children weighing 40 kg or more: 1 tablet 2-3 times daily.

Method

Take with food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can break the tablet in half to make it easier to swallow, but take both halves at the same time. Space doses evenly, with at least 4 hours between doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea (in adults)
  • Thrush (fungal infection in mouth, vagina, or skin folds)
  • Nausea (especially with high doses; take with food to reduce)
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea (in children)
RARE
  • Skin rash, itching, or raised itchy rash (hives)
  • Indigestion, dizziness, headache
  • Increase in liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Severe skin reactions (rashes with blisters, peeling skin, or target-like spots - seek immediate medical help)
  • Blood disorders (fewer white blood cells or red blood cells, problems with blood clotting - seen in blood tests)
  • Liver inflammation, jaundice (yellow skin or eyes due to bilirubin buildup)
  • Kidney inflammation, crystals in urine (can cause acute kidney injury)
  • Seizures (fits), especially with high doses or kidney problems
  • Black hairy tongue
  • Hyperactivity
  • Inflammation of membranes around the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a previous antibiotic, such as a rash or swelling of the face or throat.
  • Do not use if you have had liver problems or jaundice (yellow skin) with previous antibiotic use.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have glandular fever (mononucleosis).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.

  • Talk to your doctor if you do not urinate regularly.
  • Do not use this medicine for more than two weeks continuously.
  • Seek immediate medical help and stop taking the medicine if you experience a severe allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling, fever, or difficulty breathing.
  • Seek medical help as soon as possible if you have severe and persistent stomach pain, which could be a sign of acute pancreatitis.
  • Seek medical help as soon as possible if you have symptoms of inflammation of the colon, such as watery diarrhea with blood or mucus, stomach pain, and/or fever.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
