How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the dose based on the child's weight, usually 40–90 mg per kg of body weight per day.

Method

Shake the bottle well before each use. Take by mouth using the spoon or syringe provided in the package. Take doses evenly, at least 4 hours apart.

Important

For children under 40 kg, the maximum recommended dose is 100 mg per kg of body weight per day. This suspension is generally not prescribed for adults or children weighing 40 kg or more.

  • Rash

  • Loose stools
RARE
  • Being sick
  • Yeast infection (e.g., in the mouth or skin folds)
  • Kidney problems
  • Fits (seizures), especially with high doses or kidney problems
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling overly active
  • Crystals in urine (can make urine cloudy or cause pain when peeing)
  • Teeth turning color (can usually be brushed off)
  • Tongue turning yellow, brown, black, or looking hairy
  • Anemia (low red blood cells, causing tiredness, headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, pale skin/eyes)
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Low blood cells that help with clotting
  • Blood taking longer to clot than usual (may be noticed with nosebleeds or cuts)
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord (meningitis)
  • Chest pain linked to allergic reactions (may be a sign of a heart attack caused by allergy)
  • Drug-induced gut inflammation (DIES), mainly in children, with symptoms like repeated vomiting 1-4 hours after taking, stomach pain, extreme tiredness, diarrhea, and low blood pressure.
  • Sudden kidney damage caused by crystals in the urine
  • Blistering skin rash that is circular with a crust in the middle or looks like a string of pearls

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Amoxin if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had an allergic reaction to any other antibiotic before (e.g., rash, swollen face or throat).
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have mononucleosis (fever, sore throat, swollen glands, extreme tiredness).
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have kidney problems or do not urinate regularly.
  • Benzyl alcohol can cause allergic reactions. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver/kidney problems, talk to your doctor or pharmacist, as large amounts can build up and cause side effects.

  • Do not use this medicine for more than one week in children under 3 years old, unless a doctor or pharmacist has advised it.
  • Do not give this medicine to newborns (up to 4 weeks old) without a doctor's recommendation.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
