How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose, which depends on your weight and the type of infection.

Method

Take the tablets regularly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between doses.

Important

The maximum dose is usually 6 grams per day for adults. Your doctor will tell you your specific maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Skin rash
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Vomiting (being sick)
  • Severe allergic reactions (STOP taking Amoxin and get medical help immediately): severe skin rash, itching, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing, severe skin reactions with blisters or peeling.
  • Liver and gut problems: dark urine, pale stools, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), severe diarrhea (sometimes with blood), stomach pain, fever.
  • Kidney and urine issues: kidney problems, cloudy urine, painful or difficult urination, crystals in urine.
  • Neurological effects: dizziness, hyperactivity, seizures (fits), inflammation around the brain (meningitis).
  • Other symptoms: yeast infections (thrush), discolored teeth (in children, usually goes away with brushing), hairy/discolored tongue, easy bruising or bleeding, tiredness due to anemia, chest pain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Amoxin if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to any antibiotic before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have mononucleosis (glandular fever), as Amoxin might cause a rash.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or if you don't urinate regularly.
  • Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, especially blood thinners or other antibiotics, as Amoxin can affect them.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to be, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

  • Amoxin can make you feel dizzy or cause seizures. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel unwell.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
