How to Use

Dosage

Adults and children weighing 40 kg or more usually take 1 tablet three times a day. For children under 40 kg, an oral liquid form is usually preferred.

Method

Take this medicine with a meal. Swallow the tablet whole with water, or you can break it in half at the score line to make it easier to swallow. Always take both halves at the same time. Space your doses evenly throughout the day, at least 4 hours apart, and don't take two doses within 1 hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and children over 40 kg is 3 tablets. Do not take this medicine for longer than 2 weeks without consulting your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea (in adults and children)
  • Nausea (feeling sick), especially with high doses; vomiting
  • Yeast infection (thrush) in the vagina, mouth, or skin folds
RARE
  • Skin rashes, itching, or raised itchy spots (hives).
  • Upset stomach (indigestion), feeling dizzy or headache.
  • Changes in blood tests, like more liver enzymes.
  • A blistering rash that looks like small targets (dark spot in the middle, paler area around it with a dark ring).
  • Severe allergic reactions with red or purple bumps on the skin (vascular inflammation), fever, joint pain, swollen glands in the neck/armpits, swelling of the face or throat making it hard to breathe (angioedema), collapse, or chest pain. Seek immediate medical help.
  • Inflammation of the large bowel, causing watery diarrhea, usually with blood and mucus, stomach pain, and/or fever.
  • Severe and ongoing pain in the stomach area (acute pancreatitis).
  • A severe allergic reaction, mostly in children, with repeated vomiting (1-4 hours after taking the medicine), stomach pain, tiredness, diarrhea, and low blood pressure. Seek medical help.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice).
  • Kidney inflammation, blood taking longer to clot, or being very active (hyperactivity).
  • Seizures (fits), especially in people taking high doses or with kidney problems.
  • Black tongue that looks hairy, or tooth discoloration in children (usually goes away with brushing).
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells or red blood cells (anemia), crystals in the urine that can harm kidneys, or inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord (meningitis).
  • Very serious skin reactions: a wide rash with blisters and peeling skin, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals; or a red, scaly rash with bumps and blisters under the skin; or flu-like symptoms with a rash, fever, swollen glands, and unusual blood test results.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any other ingredients, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to other antibiotics.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had liver problems or yellowing of the skin (jaundice) when taking antibiotics before.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have glandular fever, liver or kidney problems, or if you don't urinate regularly.
  • Watch out for serious side effects like allergic reactions (skin rash, swelling, breathing problems), seizures, or severe stomach pain/diarrhea with blood. Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away if these occur.
  • This medicine may affect blood and urine test results. Tell your doctor or nurse that you are taking this medicine before any tests.
