How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet twice a day, but your doctor might prescribe one tablet three times a day.

Method

Take with food. Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water. You can break tablets in half along the score line to make them easier to swallow, but take both halves at the same time. Space doses out evenly, at least 4 hours apart.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet three times a day. Do not take this medicine for more than two weeks without seeing your doctor again.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth, vagina, or skin folds)
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Vomiting (being sick)
  • Skin rash
  • Itching
  • Hives (itchy, raised rash)
  • Indigestion or stomach upset
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Increase in substances produced by the liver (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Blistering skin rash that looks like small targets (dark spot in the middle, paler area, and a dark ring around the edge – erythema multiforme)
  • Low number of blood cells that help blood clot
  • Low number of white blood cells
  • Severe skin reactions such as widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin (e.g., around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals), or a red and scaly rash with bumps under the skin and blisters.
  • Inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice) due to increased bilirubin in the blood
  • Inflammation of the kidney tubules
  • Blood taking longer to clot
  • Hyperactivity
  • Seizures (fits), especially with high doses or kidney problems
  • Black hairy tongue
  • Tooth discoloration (in children), usually goes away with brushing
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells
  • Low number of red blood cells (anemia where red blood cells are destroyed)
  • Crystals in the urine that can cause sudden kidney problems
  • Rash with blisters in a circle with a crust in the middle, or looking like a string of pearls (linear IgA disease)
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a severe allergic reaction to any other antibiotic, such as a rash or swelling of the face or neck.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had liver problems or yellowing of the skin (jaundice) after taking an antibiotic before.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have glandular fever (mononucleosis), liver or kidney problems, or if you do not urinate regularly.
  • If you get a severe allergic reaction (like a severe skin rash, swelling of the face/throat, trouble breathing), stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe diarrhea with blood, severe stomach pain, or repeated vomiting (signs of severe gut issues or acute pancreatitis).
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel unwell, as this medicine may affect your ability.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date or if tablets are chipped or damaged.
