How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children weighing 40 kg or more, the usual dose is 250-500 mg three times a day, or 750 mg-1 g every 12 hours. For children under 40 kg, the usual dose is 40-90 mg per kg per day, divided into two or three doses.

Method

You can swallow the tablets with water or dissolve them in water first and then drink. Tablets can be broken to make swallowing easier. Take doses evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between doses.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose for adults and children 40 kg or more is 6 grams. For children under 40 kg, the maximum is 100 mg per kg per day.

  • Vomiting
  • Severe allergic reactions (itching, rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue/body, difficulty breathing)
  • Skin rash with small red spots or bruising caused by blood vessel inflammation, possibly with joint pain and kidney problems
  • Delayed allergic reaction (rash, fever, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes) appearing 7-12 days after taking the medicine
  • Severe skin reaction called erythema multiforme (itchy reddish-purple patches, especially on palms/soles, swollen hive-like areas, sores in mouth/eyes/genitals, fever, extreme tiredness)
  • Other severe skin reactions (skin discoloration, lumps under skin, blisters, pus-filled blisters, peeling skin, redness, pain, itching, flaking; may be accompanied by fever, headache, body aches)
  • Flu-like symptoms (rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, abnormal blood test results including high white blood cells and liver enzymes) (DRESS syndrome)
  • Fever, chills, sore throat, or other signs of infection, or easy bruising (signs of blood cell problems)
  • Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, rash) during Lyme disease treatment
  • Inflammation of the large bowel (colitis) with diarrhea (sometimes bloody), pain, and fever
  • Severe liver problems (severe diarrhea with bleeding, blisters/redness/bruising on skin, dark urine, pale stools, yellow skin/eyes - jaundice)
  • Yeast infection (thrush) in the vagina, mouth, or skin folds
  • Kidney problems
  • Seizures (convulsions), especially with high doses or kidney problems
  • Dizziness
  • Hyperactivity
  • Tooth discoloration, usually reversible with brushing (reported in children)
  • Discolored tongue (yellow, brown, or black, may look hairy)
  • Anemia (tiredness, headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, pale skin, yellow skin/eyes) due to breakdown of red blood cells
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Low platelet count (cells involved in blood clotting)
  • Blood clotting time may be longer than usual (noticed with nosebleeds or cuts)
  • Chest pain during an allergic reaction, which could be a sign of a heart attack (Kounis syndrome)
  • Drug-induced enterocolitis syndrome (DIES), mainly in children, with repeated vomiting (1-4 hours after dose), stomach pain, extreme tiredness, diarrhea, and low blood pressure
  • Crystals in urine, leading to acute kidney injury
  • Blistering rash that forms circles with a crust in the middle or looks like a string of pearls (linear IgA disease)
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any antibiotic (e.g., rash, swelling of face/throat).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have glandular fever (mononucleosis), as this medicine may not be suitable.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or do not urinate regularly.
  • If you are having blood or urine tests, tell your doctor you are taking Amoxicillin Sandoz, as it can affect results.
