How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children weighing 40 kg or more, the typical dose is 250–500 mg three times a day, or 750 mg – 1 g twice a day, depending on the type and severity of the infection. For children under 40 kg, the dose is 40-90 mg per kg of body weight per day.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water, or dissolve them in water and drink. Tablets can also be broken to make swallowing easier. Take doses evenly, with at least 4 hours between doses.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 6 grams (g) or 100 mg per kg of body weight for children weighing less than 40 kg.

RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions like itchy rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and trouble breathing. Seek medical help right away.
  • Serious skin rashes with red spots, blisters, peeling skin, or yellow/purplish patches. These can be serious.
  • Kidney problems, such as cloudy urine or pain when urinating.
  • Liver issues, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice).
  • Fever, chills, sore throat, or easy bruising, which could mean problems with your blood cells.
  • Dizziness, seizures (fits), or being overly active.
  • Severe diarrhea, sometimes with blood, stomach pain, and fever (signs of inflammation in the bowel). Also, repeated severe vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, and low blood pressure in children (drug-induced enterocolitis syndrome).
  • Yeast infections in your mouth, vagina, or skin folds. The tongue may turn yellow, brown, or black, or teeth might become discolored (especially in children, usually removed by brushing).
  • Chest pain that occurs with an allergic reaction, which could be a sign of a heart attack caused by allergy (Kounis syndrome).
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, or any other ingredients, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to any antibiotic.
  • Tell your doctor if you have glandular fever, kidney problems, or irregular urination.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially blood thinners, other antibiotics, gout medications (allopurinol, probenecid), or methotrexate.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before using this medicine.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience dizziness, seizures, or allergic reactions that could impair your ability.
