How to Use
Dosage
The dose is based on your child's weight, usually 25 mg/3.6 mg to 45 mg/6.4 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into two doses.
Method
Give this medicine with a meal. Shake the bottle well before each dose. Space doses out evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between them. Do not give two doses within the same hour.
Important
The maximum daily dose can be up to 70 mg/10 mg per kg of body weight, divided into two doses.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Diarrhea
- •Yeast infection (thrush)
- •Nausea (feeling sick)
- •Vomiting
RARE
- •Skin rash, itching, or raised itchy rash (hives)
- •Indigestion or stomach upset
- •Dizziness or headache
- •Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), which may indicate liver problems
- •Kidney problems, sometimes causing crystals in the urine
- •Seizures (fits), especially with high doses or kidney problems
- •Unusual bleeding or bruising, or low numbers of blood cells
- •Dark or "hairy" tongue, or stained teeth (usually goes away with brushing)
Important Warnings
- Do not give this medicine if your child is allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or any other ingredients.
- Do not give this medicine if your child has had a severe allergic reaction to another antibiotic before, like a rash or swelling of the face or throat.
- Do not give this medicine if your child has had liver problems or yellow skin (jaundice) during antibiotic treatment.
- Talk to your doctor if your child has glandular fever, liver or kidney disease, or does not urinate regularly.
Use in Elderly Patients
Category A
Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
