How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children weighing over 40 kg, the typical dose is 250-500 mg three times a day, or 750 mg-1 gram twice a day, depending on the infection. For children under 40 kg, the dose is 40-90 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into two or three doses. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

You can take Amorion tablets with or without food. Doses should be taken evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between each dose.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose for adults is 6 grams. For children weighing less than 40 kg, the maximum recommended dose is 100 mg per kg of body weight daily.

Possible Side Effects

  • Yeast infection (e.g., in vagina, mouth, or skin folds)
  • Dizziness
  • Hyperactivity
  • Tongue may turn yellow, brown, or black and look hairy
  • A type of anemia causing tiredness, headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, paleness, and yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Low platelet count (cells that help blood clot)
  • Blood takes longer to clot, which you might notice if you get nosebleeds or cuts
  • Chest pain related to an allergic reaction (Kounis syndrome)
  • Crystals in the urine (crystalluria) which can cause cloudy urine, difficulty or pain when urinating. Drink plenty of fluids to reduce the risk.
  • Inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis)
  • Drug-induced enterocolitis (DIES), mainly in children, with symptoms like repeated vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy, diarrhea, and low blood pressure.

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking Amorion and see a doctor right away if you get a severe allergic reaction with symptoms like itching, skin rash, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or body, or difficulty breathing.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin reactions like a rash with blisters, peeling skin, or other serious skin changes (e.g., red-purple spots, itchy patches, painful sores).
  • Contact your doctor if you experience yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), very dark urine, pale stools, severe diarrhea with blood, or problems with urination, as these can be signs of liver or kidney issues.
  • Tell your doctor if you have mononucleosis (glandular fever) or kidney problems, or if you notice any unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, or extreme tiredness, as these may require special attention.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel unwell or experience side effects like dizziness or seizures.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
