How to Use

Dosage

For children under 40 kg, the dose is 40-90 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into 2 or 3 doses. For adults and children 40 kg or more, the typical dose is 250-500 mg three times a day, or 750 mg-1 gram every 12 hours. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Shake the bottle well before each dose. Take doses evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between doses. You can take this medicine with or without food.

Important

For children under 40 kg, the maximum dose is 100 mg per kg of body weight daily. For adults and children 40 kg or more, the maximum dose is 6 grams per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Rash
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Vomiting (being sick)
  • Mild itchy rash (round, pink or red spots, hive-like swollen areas on forearms, legs, palms, hands or feet)
  • Yeast infection (thrush) in the vagina, mouth, or skin folds
  • Kidney problems
  • Seizures (convulsions), especially with high doses or kidney problems
  • Dizziness
  • Hyperactivity
  • Tooth discoloration (usually goes away with brushing, seen in children)
  • Hairy tongue (yellow, brown, or black tongue that looks hairy)
  • Anemia (low red blood cells) with symptoms like tiredness, headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, pale skin, and yellowing of skin/eyes
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Problems with blood clotting (longer clotting time, easy bruising, nosebleeds)
  • Chest pain with allergic reaction (may be a sign of allergy-induced heart attack)
  • DIES (Drug-induced enterocolitis syndrome) in children (repeated vomiting 1-4 hours after dose, stomach pain, extreme tiredness, diarrhea, low blood pressure)
  • Crystalluria (crystals in urine causing cloudy urine, difficulty or pain when urinating; drink plenty of fluids to reduce risk)
  • Blistering rash that forms a circle with a scab in the center or looks like a string of pearls (linear IgA disease)
  • Aseptic meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord)
  • Severe allergic reactions (itchy skin, rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue/body, difficulty breathing, can be fatal). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Small flat red spots or bruises under the skin (due to blood vessel inflammation), possibly with joint pain and kidney problems. If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Delayed allergic reaction (rash, fever, joint pain, enlarged lymph nodes, especially in armpits, usually 7-12 days after taking Amorion). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Erythema multiforme (itchy reddish-purple spots on skin, especially palms/soles, hive-like swellings, sore areas in mouth/eyes/genitals, fever, extreme tiredness). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Other severe skin reactions (skin discoloration, bumps under skin, blisters, pus-filled blisters, peeling, redness, pain, itching, flaking skin, fever, headache, body aches). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • DRESS syndrome (flu-like symptoms, rash, fever, swollen glands, abnormal blood test results including increased white blood cells (eosinophilia) and liver enzymes). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Blood cell problems (fever, chills, sore throat, other infection signs, or easy bruising). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (during Lyme disease treatment, causes fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and rash). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Colitis (inflammation of the large intestine with diarrhea, sometimes bloody, pain, and fever). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.
  • Severe liver problems (especially with long-term treatment, in men and elderly) with symptoms like severe diarrhea with bleeding, blisters/redness/bruises on skin, dark urine, pale stools, yellow skin/eyes (jaundice). If you get these, stop taking Amorion and see a doctor immediately.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Amorion if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take it if you have had a severe allergic reaction (like a rash or swelling of the face/throat) to any antibiotic before.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have glandular fever (fever, sore throat, swollen glands, and extreme tiredness).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have irregular urination.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
