Amorion is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections in the body, and can also be used for stomach ulcers with other medicines.

How to Use

Dosage

Normal dose for adults and children over 40 kg is 250-500 mg three times a day, or 750 mg-1 gram every 12 hours, depending on the infection.

Method

Take tablets with or without food. Space your doses evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between doses.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose for adults is 6 grams.

Possible Side Effects

  • Thrush (a yeast infection in the vagina, mouth, or skin folds)
  • Kidney problems, sometimes causing cloudy urine or pain when urinating
  • Seizures (fits), especially with high doses or kidney problems
  • Dizziness or feeling too active
  • Tongue changes (yellow, brown, or black, sometimes looking hairy)
  • Blood problems, such as anemia (low red blood cells causing tiredness, paleness) or issues with blood clotting (easy bruising, nosebleeds)
  • Gut inflammation (especially in children), causing repeated vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, diarrhea, and low blood pressure
  • Unusual skin rashes with blisters or circles, or inflammation around the brain/spinal cord (meningitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, or any other ingredient in it. If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic (like a rash, swollen face or throat), do not take this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have glandular fever (fever, sore throat, swollen glands, extreme tiredness), kidney problems, or if you don't urinate regularly.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get severe allergic reactions. These can include itchy skin, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or body, or trouble breathing.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get severe skin reactions like red-purple spots, blisters, peeling skin, or flu-like symptoms, fever, and swollen glands.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get severe diarrhea with blood, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), as these can be signs of serious liver or gut problems.

  • Be careful when driving or using machines. This medicine can cause side effects like dizziness or seizures that might affect your ability to drive or operate machines safely.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Increase the dosing interval in severe renal impairment. May potentiate the effect of methotrexate. (updated 6.11.2023)
