How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet once a day.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, at the same time each day, preferably in the morning. You can take it with or without food, but avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed.

RARE
  • Severely decreased urine output (reduced kidney function)
  • Spontaneous bleeding
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Liver problems (jaundice, dark urine)
  • Sudden wheezing, chest pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Swelling of eyelids, face, or lips
  • Swelling of tongue and throat, causing severe breathing difficulties
  • Severe skin reactions (bad rash, hives, blistering, peeling skin, inflammation of mucous membranes, or other allergic reactions)
  • Heart attack
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (severe stomach and back pain with feeling very unwell)
  • Weakness, bruising, fever, and frequent infections
  • Stiffness
  • Sudden severe breathing difficulty (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion)
  • Fast heart rate
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Vision impairment
  • Unpleasant feeling in the stomach
  • Increased blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and uric acid
  • High blood calcium, fat, or sodium levels

  • Inflammation of blood vessels, often with a rash
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Conditions with stiffness, tremor, and/or movement disorders
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth sores; frequent infections (low white blood cell count)
  • Pale skin, tiredness, shortness of breath, dark urine (hemolytic anemia, abnormal breakdown of red blood cells)
  • Confusion, tiredness, muscle twitching, muscle cramps, rapid breathing (hypochloremic alkalosis)
  • Angioedema of the intestines (stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea)
  • Breathing difficulties with fever, cough, wheezing, shortness of breath (pulmonary edema, pneumonia)
  • Facial rash, joint pain, muscle disorders, fever (lupus erythematosus (SLE))
  • Blistering of the skin (bullous dermatitis)
  • Non-melanoma skin and lip cancer.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as this medicine can harm your baby. It's also not recommended during early pregnancy.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to amlodipine, valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, other calcium channel blockers, sulfonamide medicines (used for lung or urinary infections), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or bile duct problems.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems, are on dialysis, or cannot produce urine.
  • Do not take if your blood potassium or sodium levels are too low, or if your blood calcium levels are too high.

  • Do not take if you have gout.
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have a narrowed heart valve, cardiogenic shock (your heart cannot pump enough blood), or heart failure after a heart attack.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren (another medicine for high blood pressure).
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get swelling of your face or throat while taking other medicines (like ACE inhibitors). Never take this medicine again.
  • See a doctor immediately if you experience decreased vision or eye pain. These could be signs of serious eye problems.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties after taking this medicine, especially if you had them before with hydrochlorothiazide.
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor before drinking alcohol, as it can lower your blood pressure too much or make you feel dizzy.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or headache. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to, as it can worsen your condition.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, have had a kidney transplant, or have narrowed arteries to your kidneys.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure, coronary artery disease, or have had a heart attack.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrowed heart valves or a thickened heart muscle.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a condition called aldosteronism (where your adrenal glands make too much of a hormone).
  • Tell your doctor if you have lupus (SLE).
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or high cholesterol/triglyceride levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had skin reactions to sun exposure, such as a rash. Protect your skin from sun and UV light while using this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to other blood pressure medicines or diuretics, especially if you have asthma or allergies.
  • Tell your doctor if you have been vomiting or have diarrhea.
  • Tell your doctor if you feel dizzy or faint.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had skin cancer or a suspicious skin change.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
