This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure in adults whose blood pressure is not controlled enough by amlodipine or valsartan alone.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet once a day.

Method

Take your medicine at the same time each day with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Do not take this medicine with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.

Important

Do not exceed the dose your doctor prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Flu-like symptoms (e.g., stuffy nose, sore throat)
  • Headache
  • Swelling in arms, hands, legs, ankles, or feet
  • Tiredness or weakness
  • Redness and warmth in the face and/or neck
RARE
  • Dizziness, especially when standing up, or drowsiness
  • Nausea, stomach pain, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Fast or pounding heartbeat
  • Cough
  • Skin rash, red skin, itching, or widespread rash
  • Joint swelling, back pain, or joint pain
  • Restlessness, ringing in the ears
  • Fainting
  • Increased urination or needing to urinate often
  • Problems getting or keeping an erection
  • Feeling of pressure
  • Low blood pressure (feeling dizzy or confused)
  • Heavy sweating
  • Muscle cramps or muscle pain
  • Mood changes, anxiety, depression, trouble sleeping
  • Tremors
  • Changes in taste, vision problems
  • Hair loss, skin discoloration
  • Urinary problems, increased need to urinate at night
  • Breast pain or enlargement in men
  • Weight changes (gain or loss)
  • Confusion
  • Swelling of the intestines (with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Reduced white or red blood cells, or platelets (may cause bruising/bleeding, fever, sore throat)
  • High blood sugar, swollen gums, stomach inflammation
  • Liver problems (e.g., hepatitis, yellow skin, high liver enzymes)
  • Stiff posture, mask-like face, slow movements, shuffling walk (Parkinson's-like symptoms)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to amlodipine, valsartan, or any other ingredients in this medicine, or to other calcium channel blockers. Signs might be itching, red skin, or trouble breathing.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or gallbladder problems, such as cirrhosis or cholestasis.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also best to avoid this medicine in early pregnancy.
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure, severe narrowing of the aortic heart valve, cardiogenic shock (when your heart cannot pump enough blood), or heart failure after a heart attack.
  • Do not take if you have high blood sugar, type 2 diabetes, or kidney problems and are being treated with aliskiren.
