How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 5 mg (5 ml) once daily.

Method

You can take this medicine with or without food, always at the same time each day with water. Shake the bottle well (for at least 10 seconds) before each use until the suspension is thoroughly mixed. Do not drink grapefruit juice.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 10 mg (10 ml) once daily. For children (6-17 years), the maximum dose is 5 mg (5 ml) once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness, sleepiness
  • Swelling (fluid retention), swollen ankles
  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat fast), flushing
  • Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation), indigestion
  • Tiredness, weakness
  • Vision problems, double vision
  • Muscle cramps
RARE
  • Sudden wheezing, chest pain, shortness of breath, or trouble breathing
  • Swelling of the eyelids, face, or lips; swelling of the tongue and throat (making breathing difficult)
  • Severe skin reactions (severe rash, hives, redness all over the body, severe itching, blisters, peeling skin, swelling, inflammation of mucous membranes), or other allergic reactions
  • Heart attack, abnormal heart rhythm
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (severe stomach pain and back pain, feeling very unwell)
  • Mood changes (anxiety, depression, insomnia)
  • Tremor, taste changes, fainting
  • Numbness or tingling in arms and legs, inability to feel pain
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Low blood pressure
  • Runny nose or sneezing due to inflamed nasal lining (rhinitis), cough
  • Dry mouth
  • Hair loss, increased sweating, itchy skin, red patches on skin, skin discoloration
  • Urination problems (difficulty urinating, increased urge to urinate at night, frequent urination)
  • Erectile dysfunction, breast discomfort or enlargement in men
  • Pain, feeling unwell
  • Joint or muscle pain, back pain
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Confusion
  • Decreased white blood cells, decreased platelets (can lead to easy bruising or bleeding)
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Nerve disorder causing muscle weakness, tingling, or numbness
  • Swollen or bleeding gums
  • Swollen stomach (gastritis)
  • Abnormal liver function, inflammation in the liver (hepatitis), yellow skin (jaundice), elevated liver enzymes (may affect some lab test results)
  • Increased muscle tone (muscle stiffness)
  • Inflammation in blood vessels, often with a skin rash
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Conditions combining stiffness, tremor, and/or movement disorders

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to amlodipine, any of its ingredients, or other calcium channel blockers (symptoms may include itching, red skin, or trouble breathing).
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have a severe narrowing of the heart's outflow tract, a condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood, or heart failure after a heart attack.
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking Amlodipine, as it can increase the medicine's effect.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, headaches, or tiredness; do not drive or use machines if you experience these symptoms, and contact your doctor.
