How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is 5 mg once daily, and can be increased to 10 mg daily; for children and adolescents (6-17 years), the usual starting dose is 2.5 mg daily, up to a maximum of 5 mg daily.

Method

Take the tablet once a day at the same time with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not take with grapefruit juice.

Important

For adults, a maximum of 10 mg daily. For children and adolescents (6-17 years), a maximum of 5 mg daily.

  • Edema (swelling due to fluid retention)
  • Headache

  • Drowsiness (especially at the beginning of treatment)
  • Palpitations
  • Flushing
  • Abdominal pain

  • Changed bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation)
  • Indigestion
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Visual disturbances / double vision
  • Muscle cramps
  • Swollen ankles
RARE
  • Mood changes
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Tremor
  • Taste changes
  • Fainting
  • Numbness or tingling in arms and legs
  • Loss of pain sensation
  • Ringing in ears
  • Low blood pressure
  • Sneezing/runny nose (rhinitis)
  • Cough
  • Dry mouth
  • Vomiting
  • Hair loss
  • Increased sweating
  • Itchy skin
  • Red patches on skin
  • Skin discoloration
  • Urination problems (increased need at night, increased frequency)
  • Erectile dysfunction / breast discomfort or enlargement in men
  • Pain / feeling unwell
  • Joint or muscle pain / back pain
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Confusion
  • Reduced white blood cells / reduced platelets (may cause easy bruising or bleeding)
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Nerve disorder causing muscle weakness, tingling, or numbness
  • Swollen gums
  • Swollen abdomen (gastritis)
  • Liver problems (hepatitis, jaundice, high liver enzymes)
  • Increased muscle tension
  • Blood vessel inflammation with rash
  • Light sensitivity
  • Movement disorders (rigidity, tremor, slow movements, shuffling, unbalanced gait)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to amlodipine or other calcium channel blockers.
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have certain severe heart conditions, such as aortic valve narrowing or cardiogenic shock.
  • Do not take if you have heart failure after a heart attack.
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

  • May affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive if you feel sick, dizzy, or tired.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had a recent heart attack, heart failure, very high blood pressure, liver disease, or if you are elderly and your dose needs to be increased.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Significant adverse effects include ankle oedema and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
