How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your weight and kidney function.

Method

The medicine is usually given as an injection into a muscle. For severe infections or if muscle injection is not possible, it is given as an infusion into a vein over 30-60 minutes. For children, it's given as an infusion over 30-60 minutes, and for infants, over 1-2 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inner ear disturbances that may cause nausea and dizziness.
  • Increased protein levels in the urine.
  • Increased urea levels in the blood.
RARE
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count).
  • Increased eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in the blood.
  • Decreased white blood cells in the blood (leukopenia).
  • Decreased platelets in the blood (thrombocytopenia).
  • Decreased magnesium levels in the blood.
  • Muscle tremors.
  • Abnormal tingling or prickling sensation on the skin (paresthesia).
  • Headache.
  • Feeling of unsteadiness or dizziness (balance disorder).
  • Blindness.
  • Retinal infarction.
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Impaired hearing.
  • Decreased blood pressure.
  • Itching.
  • Hives.
  • Joint pain.
  • Muscle twitching.
  • Decreased urine volume.
  • Presence of proteins in the urine (proteinuria).
  • Increased serum creatinine levels.
  • Increased nitrogen levels in the blood.
  • Presence of red or white blood cells in the urine.
  • Fever.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Amikacin Macure if you are allergic to amikacin or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you have had a severe reaction to similar antibiotics.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, impaired hearing, or inner ear damage.
  • If you or your family have a mitochondrial mutation (a genetic condition) or antibiotic-induced hearing loss, tell your doctor, as this may increase the risk of hearing loss.
  • Inform your doctor if you have balance problems, are elderly, are dehydrated, or have a muscle disease such as Parkinson's.
  • Tell your doctor if you are also receiving anesthetics, muscle relaxants, or large blood transfusions with citrate.

  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor for advice, as the medicine should only be used if absolutely necessary and under medical supervision. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
  • For premature or newborn infants, the elimination of the medicine may be reduced due to underdeveloped kidneys.
  • Avoid using Amikacin Macure with medicines that can harm the inner ear or kidneys, or medicines that can harm the nervous system, such as certain antibiotics, cancer drugs, antifungals, immunosuppressants, and diuretics.
  • This medicine contains sodium metabisulfite, which can rarely cause severe allergic reactions and breathing difficulties.
