How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose. During the initial phase, injections are usually given once a week for 7–15 weeks, with the dose slowly increasing. In the maintenance phase, the maximum recommended dose is 100,000 SQ-U (1 ml) given every 6–8 weeks for 3–5 years.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you Alutard SQ injections under the skin, usually in your arm.

The maximum single dose given per injection is 100,000 SQ-U (1 ml).

  • Tightness in the throat
  • Swelling of the face or throat
  • Joint swelling and pain
  • Unpleasant feeling in the chest
  • Hair growth at the injection site
  • Worsening of atopic eczema

Important Warnings

  • On the day of your injection, avoid heavy exercise, saunas, hot baths, and alcohol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had side effects after a previous injection, or if you have a chronic heart, lung, or kidney disease.
  • Do not get Alutard SQ if you have a fever, signs of infection, or allergic symptoms (like hay fever, asthma, or rash) in the last 3-4 days. Also, do not get it if your asthma has gotten much worse in the last 3 months.
  • You cannot receive Alutard SQ if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine, have poor lung function, an active autoimmune disease, or cancer.
  • Stay at the clinic for at least 30 minutes after each injection so that any allergic reactions can be found and treated.

  • Seek immediate medical help if you have severe allergic reactions (like hives, trouble swallowing or breathing, voice changes, low blood pressure, a lump in your throat) or if your asthma gets much worse.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including allergy medicines like antihistamines or corticosteroids, as they might affect this treatment.
  • Avoid antacids with large amounts of aluminum during this treatment.
  • Do not get other vaccinations one week before or one week after an Alutard SQ injection.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine. You should not start Alutard SQ treatment if you are pregnant.
