How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 0.25-0.5 mg three times a day, with a typical maintenance dose of 0.5-3 mg daily, divided into three doses.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water or other liquid.

Important

The maximum treatment duration should not exceed 2-4 weeks; long-term treatment is not recommended.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Alprox if you are allergic to alprazolam, benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis, a disease causing muscle weakness.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing difficulties or long pauses in breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if the tablets seem less effective after several weeks of use (tolerance development).

  • Tell your doctor if you experience unexpected reactions like restlessness, agitation, irritability, aggression, nightmares, increased sleeplessness, hallucinations, psychosis, inappropriate behavior, or sudden confusion. These reactions are more common in children and elderly patients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have chronic lung disease.
  • Do not use alcohol during Alprox treatment, and tell your doctor if you are taking other sedatives, as they can enhance the effects and risks.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe depression or thoughts of self-harm/suicide, as Alprox can increase this risk. Seek immediate medical help if you have such thoughts.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a certain type of high eye pressure (glaucoma).
  • Alprox can cause physical and psychological dependence. The risk is higher with larger doses and longer treatment, especially for those who have abused alcohol or other drugs. This medicine can be sought by people who misuse prescription drugs, so keep it out of reach of others.
  • Your memory may weaken during Alprox treatment.
  • Alprox may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery, especially at the beginning of treatment or if you haven't slept enough, due to its calming, muscle-relaxing, and sedating effects.
  • Concomitant use of Alprox and opioids (strong painkillers, medicines for substitution treatment, and certain cough medicines) increases the risk of drowsiness, breathing difficulties, and coma, which can be life-threatening.
  • Do not use Alprox during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary as determined by your doctor. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
