How to Use

Dosage

Typically, the starting dose is 0.5 mg once daily. The daily treatment dose is 0.5–3 mg, taken either as a single dose or divided into two doses. For elderly or frail patients, the maximum starting dose is 0.5–1 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not break or crush them.

Important

Generally, no more than 3 mg per day. For elderly or frail patients, no more than 1 mg per day.

RARE
  • Mania and hallucinations
  • Anger and agitation
  • Muscle weakness
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Aggressive or hostile behavior

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can be addictive. Do not use it for longer or in higher doses than prescribed by your doctor.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery, as this medicine can cause drowsiness and impair your alertness.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are taking opioids (strong painkillers) at the same time, tell your doctor. This combination can cause serious side effects.
  • If you have depression or suicidal thoughts, tell your doctor before starting this medicine. Contact a doctor immediately if you experience such thoughts during treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
