How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 100-300 mg daily.

Method

Take tablets by mouth with a glass of water after a meal to reduce the risk of side effects.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is up to 900 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • rash
  • increased levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone in the blood
RARE
  • fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and general feeling of unwellness (flu-like symptoms)
  • severe allergic reactions with fever, rash, joint pain, and changes in blood and liver tests (may be signs of multi-organ allergy)
  • bleeding from lips, eyes, mouth, nose, or genitals
  • skin changes such as sores in the mouth, throat, nose, or genitals, red/swollen eyes, widespread blistering or peeling skin
  • liver problems, such as liver inflammation

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Allopurinol Accord if you are allergic to allopurinol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you get a severe rash, blisters, or sores on your lips or in your mouth, stop taking this medicine right away and contact your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or high blood pressure and take water pills (diuretics) or ACE inhibitors.
  • Do not start this medicine if you are currently having a gout attack.

  • If you are of Han Chinese, Thai, or Korean origin, tell your doctor, as you may have a higher risk of severe skin reactions.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice unexplained bruising, bleeding, fever, or sore throat.

Category C
