How to Use

Dosage

Take 10 mg or 30 mg once daily.

Method

Take the capsule whole with a main meal, preferably at the same time each day. Do not chew.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 30 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache.
  • High levels of fats in your blood (like cholesterol or triglycerides).
COMMON
  • More platelets, fewer red and white blood cells in blood tests.
  • Lower thyroid hormone levels.
  • Dizziness.
  • Eye inflammation (conjunctivitis) and eyelid inflammation; dry, irritated eyes.
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Flushing (red face or skin).
  • High blood pressure.
  • Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth.
  • Temporary changes in liver function tests.
  • Dry skin (especially on the face), dry and inflamed lips, red skin, itchy rash, inflamed skin, hair loss.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, fatigue.
  • High levels of muscle breakdown products in the blood if you exercise intensely.
RARE
  • Vision problems such as blurred vision, distorted vision, cloudy eye surface (corneal clouding, cataracts), or decreased night vision.
  • Increased pressure in the brain (headache, nausea, vomiting, pain behind the eyes, vision problems).

  • Raised and itchy rash (hives), swelling around the eyes, mouth, or lips (angioedema) causing breathing difficulties or fainting due to a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).

  • Severe stomach pain, which may include bloody diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.

  • Color blindness, impaired color vision, or not being able to tolerate contact lenses.

  • Arthritis, bone diseases (like delayed growth, changes in bone density), or bones stopping growth.

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause severe harm to an unborn baby. Women must use effective birth control. Do not take if you are pregnant or think you might be.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to alitretinoin, other retinoids (like isotretinoin), peanuts, soy, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease.

  • Do not take if you have high levels of fats in your blood (like high cholesterol or triglycerides).
  • Do not take if you have an untreated thyroid disease.
  • Do not take if you have very high levels of vitamin A in your body.
  • Do not take if you are taking tetracycline (a type of antibiotic).
  • Do not become pregnant for one month after stopping treatment.
  • Never give this medicine to anyone else. Return any unused capsules to the pharmacy after your treatment ends.
  • Do not donate blood during treatment or for one month after treatment ends.
  • Limit sun exposure and avoid sunbeds. Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight. Use sunscreen with at least SPF 15.
  • Your night vision might get worse during treatment. If this happens, do not drive or use machines at night or in tunnels.
  • If you wear contact lenses, you may need to wear glasses during treatment with Alitretinoin Orifarm.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had mental health problems, including depression or thoughts of harming yourself.
