How to Use

Dosage

One 10 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water after a meal, preferably after dinner. Do not break, crush, or chew.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 10 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness

RARE
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting when standing up quickly.
  • Fast heartbeat (tachycardia).
  • Drowsiness.
  • Runny, itchy, or stuffy nose, sneezing.
  • Diarrhea and vomiting.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Skin rash and itching.
  • Fluid retention, causing swollen arms or legs.
  • Chest pain.
  • Hot flashes.
  • Irregular or fast heartbeats.
  • Decreased white blood cells, which can lead to more infections, sore throat, or mouth sores.
  • Decreased platelets, which can cause bleeding gums, nosebleeds, bruising, or a rash with red spots.
  • Abnormal liver function, with symptoms like yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to alfuzosin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have or have had low blood pressure when standing up (orthostatic hypotension), which can make you feel dizzy or faint.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you are already taking other alpha-blocker medicines (like doxazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe kidney problems, a heart condition, chest pain (angina pectoris), or a known QT prolongation on your ECG.

  • You might feel dizzy, weak, or sweat a lot within hours of taking your first dose, especially if you also take blood pressure or chest pain medicines. Lie down until symptoms pass and tell your doctor.
  • If you have a painful erection that lasts more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical help, as this can lead to permanent damage.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or weakness. If you feel this way, do not drive or use machines.
  • Inform your doctor or surgeon that you are taking this medicine before any surgery, especially if it involves general anesthesia or cataract surgery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Significant adverse effects include orthostatic hypotension and dizziness. Increases risk of falls. Consider potential interactions especially with antihypertensives. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 25.11.2024)
