How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults, elderly, and children over 6 years old weighing over 20 kg is 0.25–0.5 micrograms per day.

Method

Take the capsule by mouth. Do not chew or crush it.

Important

Your doctor may prescribe up to 5 micrograms per day if your calcium levels are very low.

  • Tiredness
  • Calcinosis (calcium deposits in the body, which can appear as hard, acne-like bumps on the skin)
  • Confusion
  • Feeling weak or unwell
  • Kidney problems
  • Kidney stones
  • Nephrocalcinosis (calcium deposits forming in the kidneys)
  • Dizziness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to alfacalcidol, peanut, soy, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have symptoms of too much vitamin D, high calcium (hypercalcemia), high phosphate (hyperphosphatemia), or high magnesium (hypermagnesemia) in your blood.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe rash.
  • Contact your doctor if you notice symptoms of too much calcium or phosphate in your blood, such as weakness, muscle or bone pain, frequent urination, thirst, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite, excessive sweating, headache, confusion, drowsiness, dry mouth, or a metallic taste.
  • Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you notice signs of kidney problems, such as decreased urination, swelling in any body part, fever with side pain, or sharp cramping pain in your lower back (possible kidney stones).
