How to Use

Dosage

Apply one Alacare patch to the affected skin lesion for 4 hours during a single treatment session.

Method

The treatment involves applying the Alacare patch to the affected area for 4 hours, followed by illuminating the area with red light for a few minutes; this process must be performed by a healthcare professional.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to 5-aminolevulinic acid or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have porphyria, a blood metabolic disorder.
  • Do not use if similar treatments with 5-aminolevulinic acid products have not worked for you before.
  • Do not use if you have other skin conditions that are caused or made worse by light exposure.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have dark brown or black skin, or very thick skin lesions, as there is no experience with Alacare treatment in these cases.

  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or might be pregnant, as Alacare treatment is generally not recommended during pregnancy.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are receiving UV treatment; it should be stopped before Alacare treatment.
  • Protect the treated skin and surrounding area from sunlight for about 48 hours after treatment.
  • It is important not to apply any cream to your scalp or face on the day of treatment before seeing your doctor.
  • Your doctor or nurse will make sure the Alacare patch does not come into contact with your eyes.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any medications that increase skin sensitivity to light, such as St. John's wort, antifungal medicines (griseofulvin), certain diuretics, diabetes medications (glibenclamide, glimepiride), mood disorder or nausea medications ending in "azine", or antibiotics ending in "sulfa", "oxacin", or "cycline".
  • You should stop breastfeeding for 48 hours after Alacare patch application.
