How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the right dose for you. Treatment usually starts with a small dose, which is gradually increased.

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Important

Your doctor will set your maximum daily dose. Do not take more than your doctor prescribes.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Anxiety, restlessness, fear, confusion, hallucinations, sleeplessness, overactivity of the central nervous system (especially in patients with impaired brain function), reduced REM sleep.
  • Tiredness, dizziness, memory problems.
  • Fast heartbeat.
  • Dry mouth, nausea, stomach upset.
  • Muscle twitching.
  • Drowsiness.
  • Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction).
  • Nervousness, feeling of well-being (euphoria).
  • Headache, uncontrolled movements, clumsiness, speech problems, increased tendency for seizures and convulsions.
  • Vision problems, dilated pupils, sensitivity to light, narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Slow heartbeat.
  • Constipation, decreased sweating, allergic rash, difficulty urinating (especially with enlarged prostate), urinary retention.
  • Inflammation of the salivary glands.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to biperiden hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain eye conditions (narrow-angle glaucoma), severe digestive problems, an enlarged prostate (risk of difficulty urinating), or a tendency for a fast pulse.
  • This medicine can increase the risk of seizures in people who are prone to them.
  • There have been rare cases of misuse and dependence with Akineton, possibly due to its temporary mood-lifting effects.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Akineton, as it can make the effects stronger.

  • Akineton can affect your ability to drive or use machines, especially if taken with other medicines that affect the brain or alcohol.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Significant adverse effects include dry mouth, constipation, confusion and cognitive impairment. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 6.10.2025)
