Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bloating and abdominal distension (especially at the beginning of treatment, usually decreases with continued use).
RARE
  • Allergic reactions to ispagula ingredients, such as hives (itchy, raised bumps on the skin), itching, redness, or shortness of breath. If these occur, stop use and contact a doctor immediately.
  • Swelling and blockage in the throat, esophagus, or intestines, which can lead to choking, if not taken with enough liquid.
  • Nausea and vomiting (frequency unknown).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ispagula seeds, husks, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a sudden change in bowel function lasting more than 2 weeks, unexplained rectal bleeding, difficulty emptying bowels after laxatives, difficulty swallowing, narrowing of the stomach or intestines (especially esophagus), any disease of the esophagus or stomach, bowel obstruction, or paralysis of the bowel.
  • Stop using Agiocur and contact a doctor if you experience abdominal pain, unusual stool, or if constipation does not improve within 3 days. Also, do not use if you have sudden or ongoing abdominal symptoms like pain, nausea, or vomiting, as these could be signs of bowel obstruction.
  • Always swallow the granules with plenty of liquid (1-2 glasses) to prevent choking or blockage in the throat or esophagus.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, as Agiocur can affect their absorption. Take Agiocur at least 0.5-1 hour before or after other medicines. Do not use Agiocur with other medicines that increase bowel content or slow down bowel movements (e.g., loperamide, opioids). If you have diabetes and are on insulin, your insulin dose may need adjustment. If you take thyroid hormones, their dose may also need adjustment.
